A Tented Laid Back Soirée in Copetown

Real Weddings

The private residence, owned by the bride’s parents, was nothing short of giving all of the inspiration, warmth, and a sense of welcome.

This tented private residence wedding with Laura, of Laura Olsen Events, was by far one of my favourite weddings we’ve ever worked on. Nell, the bride Julia’s mom, just seemed so happy and proud to be planning this wedding for Julia and Will, as they live in New York.

When I drove up the long wooded driveway to the residence for our inital site tour, I was taken back as I approached their home. I saw a beautiful old barn that must have been restored at some point or another, a charming farm house, and beautifully kept landscape.

I saw a space to the left of the house that I thought would make an excellent ceremony space, which I later learned in our meeting would indeed be the ceremony space. It was stunningly perfect.

Our meeting with Nell was bustling with design ideas (as it usually is anytime I work on something with Laura!) and Nell was so easy to work with and present ideas to. She rarely said no to anything or disliked ideas, but she preferred florals be used in placed that would make an impact yet be a part of the landscape. I appreciated her approach to the design plan and between the three of us, the final design plan was perfect.

Will wanted plenty of colour and we knew that with them having an eye for photography and style (Julia being a successful NYC street photographer), we wanted to do something different yet simple. My interpretation of the entire design plan was a laid back backyard soirée with all the elegance and grace but with a youthful playfulness about it. I mean, there was an oyster bar by the pool (so classy) which Julia and Will eventually jumped into later that night with a backdrop of fireworks! How fun!

Colour? Summer wedding? That meant sourcing all of the prettiest local seasonal blooms from Hartley Market Flowers and Westfield Flowers. From several varieties of dahlias to zinnias, we indeed had all the colour!

The details that Laura brought in with the tablescape were just perfection. The linens, the glassware and cutlery selection and the custom stationery by Statue Rue, all came together harmoniously.

Did you spot the jars of honey? Those were harvested and jarred by Nell herself, with honey that their honeybees made – how adorably cute!

I’m so incredibly proud of how this event all came together. It was truly a vendor dream team and it was so wonderful to work with Nell! She was such a pleasure to share ideas with and I wish we could do it all over again!

And last but not least, the floral chandelier above the round head table, centred amongst the guest tables.

Congratulations to Julia and Will and happiest of days to you both! Nell, it was a pleasure to work with you and so honoured to have been a part of a stellar vendor team!
